Network Engineer

Confluence provides information technology support services to nonprofits, with 400-some clients and growing steadily. We have an immediate opening for a full-time member of our technical staff to support the network, server, desktop, and software needs of a portfolio of clients, including planning, upgrades, and migrations. This is a unique position and a great opportunity to leverage technical skills towards the greater good. In this capacity, you will get to know phenomenal nonprofits and have broad responsibility for their technology needs.

This job entails supporting a variety of nonprofits organizations primarily in metropolitan Washington DC, with coverage extending to Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing/maintaining/troubleshooting network infrastructures for new and existing clients, typically visiting two clients a day and from 6-10 clients a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform onsite and remote technical support for multiple clients
  • Administer and maintain Windows Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Windows Server 2008 and Small Business Server 2008
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Exchange 2010, 2007, and 2003
  • Support Windows 7, Vista, and XP desktops
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain network devices including firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless devices
  • Plan and execute complex, multi-faceted roll-outs of new systems, updates and capabilities
  • Perform routine maintenance activities such as checking backups, inspecting log files, desktop support, etc.
  • Install Anti-Virus, setup POP3 email accounts, upgrade operating systems, troubleshoot applications such as Citrix, firewalls, and wireless networks
  • Document work performed
  • Provide estimates for a wide variety of technical tasks along with supporting cost detail for any recommended hardware or software
  • Troubleshoot, install, configure telecommunications equipment including routers, hubs, switches, LAN and WAN
  • Assist and train employees in the use of computer equipment and software by orientation sessions, one-on-one training, tutoring
  • Provide advice and guidance on alternatives for commercial and other strategic technology initiatives
  • Maintain a high level of satisfaction from the customers in terms of the technical support received
  • Support a base of clients with responsibility for the infrastructure from planning to maintenance
  • Manage single server deployments, performing installation, configuration and setup and managing workstation components
  • Perform network and security assessments
  • Help customer plan for systems upgrades and new deployments
  • Deploy/upgrade new systems hardware and software


Requirements:

  • Must be a seasoned network professional providing systems support for network infrastructure, server hardware and software and client systems.
  • College degree in relevant field preferred; certifications a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with Microsoft server technologies, including multiple installations of Microsoft Server and Exchange
  • Knowledge and experience with enterprise infrastructure
  • Demonstrated understanding of networking concepts in a LAN/WAN environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot servers, networking hardware, application software, workstations and printers.
  • Experience with Backup Software, Security Software (AV, SPAM, Spyware)
  • Experience with VPN and firewall setup, troubleshooting complex DNS issues
  • Reliable transportation (not all clients are metro accessible)
